Kids@IAG program is an impressive benefit for working parents

A major barrier for parents returning to work is juggling school holidays. The modern day schooling system isn’t designed for today’s working households, and for parents this juggle can be incredibly challenging, stressful and expensive.

In 2014, IAG extended its flexible working arrangements to include provision of an onsite school holiday program, called Kids@IAG. This program has made a significant difference to their staff by enabling parents to work through school holidays, satisfied that their children are being well cared for in an accessible and safe location.

A unique element of IAG’s offering is that the care is provided at no cost to the parents. This presents an annual saving of up to $5,000 per child. The program highlights IAG’s commitment to creating a fair and inclusive workforce where their employees feel supported.

We had the opportunity to speak with Itti Bahnot, HRIS Specialist at IAG, to discuss her experience with the Kids@IAG program.

1. Tell us about yourself Itti

I am a focused HR professional who wants to remain a contributing and respected member of a high-performing team. Within my specific areas of responsibility, I will seek out ways of continuously improving the way P&C supports the IAG business.

2. What is your position title at IAG?

HRIS Implementation Specialist

3. Describe working for IAG.

It is a vast experience. The work culture and flexibility are second to none.

4. One of the biggest challenges parents face whilst working is juggling the school holiday period. How do you juggle school holidays?

Thanks to the Holiday Program at work, my kids and I look forward to the school Holidays.

5. Do IAG support parents during this period?

IAG has been very supportive for parents. Not only is there a monetary benefit of not paying extremely high fees for Holiday Programs outside, but it also helps kids understand their parents and their work. This program has motivated my kids in many ways.

6. What is your experience with the Kids@IAG Program? How is this program perceived amongst your peers?

The program has been very well received. The kids make new friends and enjoy daily activities.

I have been able to make connections with other people from the business that I would have not known/made otherwise.

7. Describe your experience when your child first began school? Did IAG support this transition?

IAG was very supportive of me working flexibly to support my kids through the transition to school. I was amazed that I was able to be there for my kids and also not compromising my work at the same time.

8. What would be one piece of advice you would give to another parent returning to work?

Have a discussion with your manager to work out a plan that works for you. There are a range of flexible options available. Ensure that you are across all the options and make an informed decision.
