Own Body Mobile Health Services

Own Body Mobile Health Services

About our business

Own Body was created through a desire to help clients understand and maximise their own bodies’ potential, in their own space.

We are a team of mobile, highly qualified and reliable allied health professionals working across metropolitan Melbourne, regional Victoria, Brisbane, Sydney, Launceston and Hobart (feel free to apply if you work elsewhere too, we are adding new locations all the time!). We work exclusively in the comfort and convenience of our clients’ own homes, where we can best connect with our clients to provide a holistic service. Our team of over 80 clinicians are chosen based on a demonstrated commitment to their clients, their profession and whether their own values align with ours.

The casemix is varied and whilst our primary services include post operative and subacute rehabilitation, geriatric and general reconditioning and enabling clients with disabilities to live more independently and achieve their goals we also cater to a wide variety of other types of specialty including womens health, oncology, musculoskeletal & neurology to name a few.

In most cases, our clinicians are given flexibility and control over their caseload, creating great job satisfaction as well as preventing burnout.

We are not engaged with the ACFI system (in-house services within Residential Aged Care Facilities) and the bulk of our work is not NDIS.

OUR HISTORY

Own Body’s founder, Fiona White, created the business in 2010, through a desire to help clients understand and maximise their own bodies’ potential, in their own space. Throughout her years working in gyms, hospitals, rehabilitation and community health, Fiona realised a need for personableaffordable and reliable in-home services for people unable to attend their local outpatient clinic. At the time, it was quite a unique service and we have been staying ahead of the trend ever since! For example, in 2021 alone, we not only managed to survive COVID-19 but were able to thrive and provide over 21,000 services across Australia thanks to a unique and cohesive team culture!

Our Director (a working parent herself) won the 2019 Victorian Telstra Business Woman of the Year award. You can view the acceptance speech and why she’s so passionate about what we do here.

We live, hire and thrive by our Core Values – CHEER

Connection

We add a personal touch to each experience by being mindful, trustworthy and understanding of your needs and goals. We connect with referrers, specialists and other services to ensure all of your health needs are met.

Holistic

We listen carefully. We provide an individual, tailored approach specific to each client. We use this approach to create sustainable outcomes, so you can maintain and continue your progress long term.

Experience

We are an experienced team, and are always learning and sharing our skills and knowledge with the each other. With over 300 years of combined physiotherapy expertise, you will receive the best possible treatment available.

We are very experienced in our field of mobile health physiotherapy, because physiotherapy health in the home is the core of our business, not just an add-on service to a traditional private practice.

Enablement

We believe access to treatment should be a right, not a privilege. Our mobile service enables access to rehabilitation where you need it most, which can otherwise be difficult for many of our clients.

We help you to understand your condition and your capabilities, and empower you with the knowledge and guidance to heal your body.

Remarkable People

Our team members are our biggest asset. We create outstanding experiences with our remarkable team who are known for ‘going the extra mile’. We foster positive relationships with our clients and referrers, and always strive to raise the bar.

We are passionate about aligning our services with our core values and invite you to contact us for further information, or arrange your first home physiotherapy session.

Why is Own Body a great organisation to work for?

Parents Supporting Parents. Most of our senior team are parents themselves and understand not only the juggle, but the opportunities that come with being a working parent. Own Body thrives on flexibility across our team and we support each other to achieve this because we know it’s beneficial for everyone. By making work flexible and accessible, we provide opportunities to many working parents who might not otherwise be able to work the rigid hours typically offered by a hospital or clinic role. As a result, our team is extremely satisfied with this approach taken to the way they can work and subsequently reward us by being Remarkable in their work and create great client satisfaction.

Flexible timetables. Our team manage and arrange their own schedule – seriously!

Remarkably Supportive Team. Ever had a clinical question and wish you had 80+ clinicians at your fingertips to answer for you? Wish no longer! Our Clinical Chat group encourages silly, curly and thought provoking questions and with our diverse and extensive experience, you are sure to get the answer you’ve been seeking (and learn a lot from other people’s questions too).

Celebrating Success. Just because you’re on your own doesn’t mean we don’t see the remarkable difference you’re making. We invest significant time and resources into seeking client and referrer feedback and make a point of sharing these wonderful stories with the team: Our average client rating is 9.5/10! We also have a culture of sharing great stories, especially when our wonderful clients achieve something life changing.  We offer a reward each month to the team member who goes above and beyond in some way, aligning with our Remarkable People core value.

We can move with you. Are you thinking of a sea change? We have supported multiple clinicians move state/suburb (even country!) while remaining employed with Own Body. Even if we’re not operating in that area just yet, when we know we’ve got a great team member, we will do everything in our power to keep them!

Formal Mentoring from senior team members. Our clinicians connect with their supervisors at least fortnightly and other clinical and administrative support is always at hand.

Growth mindset. We are always learning and improving. Some of our best initiatives come from a team member’s suggestion for change and that’s what we encourage. Your opinion and experience is valued and all suggestions are explored.

Professional Development. Permanent Clinicians receive $1000 (1FTE pro rata) annually to put towards CPD. We also host monthly inservices with both internal and external speakers, much of which is recorded on our large online back catalogue.

Company Car. We provide an option of a company car to our full time team members, including personal use.

Career Progression. As we grow there are more and more opportunities for career growth and progression.  If non clinical responsibilities are something that really interest you, there can certainly be opportunity for this with Own Body.

What do your employees say about working for Own Body?

Karen H

Working for Own Body has been career changing! Not only was I looking for something different from the 9-5 of musculoskeletal practice and the burn out that went along with it but I was also looking for something that would allow me to dictate & be flexible with the days & hours that I worked in order to be able to spend quality time with my son & achieve a healthy work life balance. Own Body provided all of this & way more than I ever expected.”

Cathy D

“I’ve worked for Own Body for almost 6 years now.  I started out as a casual while I was on maternity leave from the hospital.  I wanted to get my head back in the work space after having 2 children in a very short period of time.  Own Body gave me the opportunity to see clients when I wanted and manage my own small caseload.  Fiona approached me after 12months and offered me a part time role assisting with team supervision and clinical governance.  My role has grown and developed over the last 4 years and I now work in a full time capacity as the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist for Own Body.  This company has given me the opportunity to flexibly and gradually build back my working hours over time while still achieving a great work life balance. I can’t see myself working anywhere else!”

Daniel Z

“Spending time with my kids is a big priority for me. I want to be there for school drop offs and pick ups as much as I can. But I also need to fit as much working hours in the day as I can! So, I love working for Own Body and being able to organise my calendar in a way that means my first client is close to school. It means I can have the best of both worlds!”

Anna Y

“I started with Own Body 6 years ago when all my kids were in Kindergarten and Primary School-age. OB provided me with lots of flexibility so that I could work around my kids’ schedules. OB founder Fiona really understands the importance of work/life balance and provides a great opportunity for working parents to build our workload gradually according to our needs. I feel so lucky and cherish that I can be part of OWN BODY!”

Karen S

“The primary reason that I chose to transition from working in the public sector to private work with Own Body was to enable me to be available for my young children. I highly value the ability to fulfil my role as an Occupational Therapist and also as a mother to my 4 year old daughter at kinder and 7 year old son at school. I can flex my client sessions around school hours, and working from home allows me to balance paperwork and client follow up, with home duties.

Being an Occupational Therapist is an important part of my identity, as I strive to assist people to engage in meaningful occupations through my work. Work-life balance is critical to my wellbeing, and working with Own Body has provided me the opportunity to enjoy every moment and milestone with my children and my family. I am extremely grateful for the support and opportunity that Own Body has provided me”
