The Role
This opportunity has become available as the result of an internal promotion. The role reports to one of our P&C General Managers, but you will have a dotted reporting line to the operational General Manager of Telecommunications and you will spend a lot of your time working with and supporting them. You will be a member of the Telecommunications senior leadership team, and work closely with project directors and other senior operations managers as well as the managers of the finance, SHEQ, business development, bids and commercial functions. Innovation and autonomy are encouraged but you will of course have the support of your P&C GM when necessary. Balance is a key factor in this role – the balance of your knowledge of HR best practice and your knowledge of the operational environment: the balance between implementing policy and best practice and understanding the commercial impact of your decisions and recommendations; Finding the balance between staff needs and management needs. You will also play a very important role in driving and encouraging enterprise wide-initiatives within the Telecommunications business. We will need you to have a strong focus on talent, including robust succession planning, helping to build development plans for emerging talent, driving internal mobility and assisting with traineeships and apprenticeship programmes.
You
This role will suit an experienced Human Resources Business Partner or a Senior People and Culture Advisor who partners with and advises senior leaders. Strong relationship building skills will be useful to you as you coach and mentor business managers through strategic P&C operations. Previous experience in planning, capability development and leadership development will set you up for success as you drive and support the implementation of the people strategy across the Telecommunications team. This role involves a lot of variety across the HR service spectrum so you will find yourself acting variously as a leader, a ‘doer’, a strategist, an investigator, a presenter, a mentor or an advisor/consultant depending on the situation. Previous experience from the Telecommunications industry will be helpful, but not essential. You may also have developed the desired capabilities in another part of the infrastructure services, construction, or industrial industries, industrial or perhaps some other complex business environment.
Required Skills and Experience
• Experience of representing the HR/P&C function on a leadership team
• A good understanding of how to implement HR best practice in an operational environment with strong commercial focus
• Demonstrated relationship building and senior stakeholder management skills
• Change management experience will be beneficial.
• Strong understanding of NZ Employment law and experience in a unionised environment.
