Ventia is currently seeking an experienced Station Officer to lead Fire & Rescue operations at RAAF Base Oakey, Queensland.

About the role
As Station Officer, you’ll provide leadership to your platoon while ensuring the ongoing operational readiness of the station, appliances and equipment. You’ll supervise emergency responses, support the professional development of your team and play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient and high-performing Fire Service.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced firefighter looking to step into, or continue, a leadership position within a unique Defence environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supervising a platoon of Firefighters and Watchroom Operators.
- Ensuring operational readiness of personnel, vehicles and equipment.
- Coordinating emergency responses across structural, aviation, bushfire and Defence-related incidents.
- Managing station administration, reporting and operational documentation.
- Maintaining staff rosters and supporting workforce capability.
- Delivering training, mentoring and ongoing competency development.
- Promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with Ventia’s SHEQ requirements.
Building strong working relationships with Defence and internal stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Certificate IV in Public Safety (Firefighting Supervision) (PUA40319) or equivalent.
- Minimum 60 months’ experience as a Ventia Firefighter Level 1–4 or within a recognised Fire & Rescue Service.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Strong communication and administrative skills.
- A commitment to safety, continuous improvement and developing others.
Special Conditions
As this position supports the Australian Defence Force, applicants must:
- Be an Australian Citizen.
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1 – Secret).
- Successfully complete an Australian Federal Police Check.
- Successfully complete a CASA Basic Class 2 pre-employment medical.
