The Opportunity
Join our team maintaining the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Western Harbour Tunnel network, helping keep one of Sydney’s most vital transport links safe and reliable. As a Road & Maintenance Worker, you’ll carry out general maintenance, cleaning, road closures and civil works, while supporting electrical and mechanical teams. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to coordinate activities and respond to tunnel incidents as needed.
Salary & Roster
- $107,000 – $115,000 inclusive of superannuation
- 12-hour shifts, rotating days, nights and weekends: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 6:00 am
- 4 days on / 4 days off rotating roster, providing excellent work-life balance and recovery time
- 38-hour week with overtime opportunities available

Key Responsibilities
As a Road & Maintenance Worker, you will:
- Maintain the integrity of tunnel drainage systems and associated infrastructure
- Refill chemical tanks in the Depressurisation Dosing Room
- Operate decanting pumps and replenish fire traps as required
- Perform general cleaning throughout the tunnel and associated facilities
- Complete painting and minor building maintenance works
- Carry out minor maintenance on tunnel vehicles
- Perform road closures for planned maintenance and emergency incidents
- Replace air conditioning filters
- Assist electrical, mechanical and other maintenance personnel as required
- Operate specialised equipment including: Tunnel wall washer, Road sweeper, Scissor lift (EWP), and Attenuator truck
- Complete road surface repairs and other civil maintenance activities
- Transfer waste, contaminated liquids and sludge safely
- Maintain maintenance records and complete required reports
- Provide transport and courier services as required
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential
- Experience in general maintenance involving plant, equipment and infrastructure
- Current NSW MR Driver Licence (or higher)
- Current White Card
- Working at Heights certification and experience
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence/certification and operating experience
- Vehicle Loading Crane (VLC) licence/ticket with demonstrated operating experience
- Solid understanding of safe work practices within live traffic or roadway environments, including hazard identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation
- Ability to quickly learn and use maintenance management systems such as Maximo and TeamBinder
Desirable
- Road Sweeper operating experience
- Tunnel Wall Washer operating experience
- TMA qualification
- Confined Space Entry certification and experience
- Traffic Controller Accreditation
- Emergency Response Training
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- High school certificate, trade qualification or equivalent vocational training
