Market Development & Customer Manager

Help shape the Ventia Engineering and Professional Services team and lead how we engage with clients, prioritise and influence market opportunities, and drive sustainable growth across critical infrastructure sectors. This role sits at the front end of the opportunity lifecycle, ensuring clear alignment between market demand, business strategy and delivery capability.

We are seeking a Market Development & Customer Manager to define and prioritise demand, shape strategy and capability, build strong customer relationships and own the decisions on which opportunities are pursued across the business.

About the Role

As Market Development & Customer Manager, you will be responsible for shaping market strategy execution, customer engagement and opportunity prioritisation across the engineering and professional services portfolio.

Additionally, you’ll:

• Lead market development activities by identifying, assessing and prioritising opportunities across external customers and internal sectors
• Build and manage a portfolio of strategic customer relationships, acting as a key interface for engagement and insight
• Shape and qualify demand, ensuring opportunities align with business strategy, capability and risk appetite
• Own the prioritisation of opportunities, ensuring clear scope, value proposition and customer intent
• Provide market and customer intelligence to inform business strategy and investment decisions
• Ensure work-winning alignment, including marketing, business development and tendering inputs
• Ensure disciplined handover of opportunities into delivery, maintaining alignment on commitments and expectations

About You

You are a strategic and commercially astute leader who thrives on understanding markets, building relationships and influencing outcomes at a senior level. You bring a strong ability to balance customer needs with business capability and can confidently operate in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

You have:

• Significant experience in strategy development and execution, market development, customer management or commercial leadership within engineering, infrastructure or professional services
• Proven ability to manage senior customer relationships and influence long-term strategic outcomes
• Strong understanding of market dynamics, procurement environments and customer decision drivers
• Experience shaping and prioritising opportunities in line with strategy and delivery capability
• Demonstrated experience in work-winning environments, including bid shaping and tender processes
• Proven leadership skills, able to oversee a team and ensure high-quality outcomes across multiple work fronts
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate without direct authority
