Field Technician

Find your further with Ventia in this new and exciting opportunity as a Field Technician in our Operations & Services team, working across the NBN network.

This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for fault finding, fibre splicing and copper jointing, supporting critical telecommunications infrastructure across North Queensland. The role offers variety, autonomy and the opportunity to work across diverse locations from Bowen to Weipa and Mount Isa – travel allowances provided when working away.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fault finding and restoration on copper and fibre networks 
• Undertake jointing and fibre splicing activities using OTDR, PON, and splice equipment 
• Diagnose network issues and ensure timely resolution to meet customer outcomes 
• Support and mentor less experienced technicians where required 
• Complete field audits, safety checks, and hazard identification 
• Scope civil works, provide documentation (e.g. mud maps, SORs), and maintain accurate records 

Required Skills and Experience

You are a self-driven and detail orientated technician with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for delivering high quality field services. You will have proven experience in fault finding on telecom networks (copper and fibre).

• NBN enablement (or willingness to obtain)
• Traffic management lv 2 (willingness to obtain)
• Solid computer skills
• Strong time management
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Desirable qualifications include pole top rescue certificate, Energex/Ergon pole access and electrical qualifications
