The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to provide high quality commercial leadership and support to our project team on a fixed-term contract. Reporting to the Project Director, this role plays a critical part in enabling strong commercial performance, contractual compliance and value creation across the contract.
Working closely with project leaders, clients and subcontractors, you will provide expert commercial advice, manage risk and opportunity, and support the effective delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities
In this varied and hands-on role, you will:
- Provide operational commercial support to the project team, enabling delivery of commercial performance and compliance targets
- Devise and lead claim strategies relating to potential or imminent disputes
- Provide advice to project teams on contractual and commercial matters
- Lead commercial negotiations for large variations, significant claims and contract renewals as required
- Ensure statutory, legal and regulatory compliance across the contract
- Assist in improving commercial contract policies, processes and governance
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks, including minimising revenue leakage and cost escalation
- Manage downstream commercial risk through effective subcontractor engagement
About You
You are a commercially astute professional who enjoys working in a fast paced, project-based environment. You build strong relationships, communicate with confidence, and bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach to managing commercial outcomes.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in commercial or contract management within infrastructure, construction or services environments
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive financial performance and results
- Sound understanding of contract and construction law and commercial administration systems
- Proven experience delivering commercial outcomes at an operational level
- Experience managing claims, disputes and commercial negotiations
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable:
- 5+ years’ experience in commercial management roles
- Experience across major infrastructure or transport projects
- Exposure to PPP, operations and maintenance environments
- Tertiary qualifications in quantity surveying, law, commerce, engineering or a related discipline
